What is actually the difference between…

National park

A national park, on the other hand, is a protected area which, in the majority of its area, is in a state of little or no human influence or is capable of developing into this state.

In addition, a national park is usually of a special nature, which means that the natural dynamics of natural processes must be ensured as undisturbed as possible in the majority of its area.

Nature Park

On the one hand, nature parks are cultural landscapes in which people have lived and worked for centuries, and on the other hand they are habitats for many, sometimes rare and protected, animal and plant species. In order to preserve and develop these special landscapes, the concern for nature conservation should be taken into account when using the land of the nature park, for example through tourism, agriculture and forestry.

The rich cultural and natural heritage makes these areas particularly attractive for recreation and environmentally friendly tourism, the promotion of which is one of the most important tasks of the nature park. In Brandenburg, over 50 percent of the nature parks consist of nature and landscape conservation areas.
