Hector Berlioz: »Le carnaval romain« op. 9 overture
Edward Elgar: Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85
Béla Bartók: Concerto for Orchestra Sz 116

Hector Berlioz, Edward Elgar, and Béla Bartók are considered masters of orchestration, outstanding sound painters. All three dared to be unconventional and broke with traditional musical forms. Bartók used modern musical language, Berlioz revolutionized the program symphony, and Elgar developed his own, often enigmatic melodic language, which became a mirror to his sensitive soul. This was particularly evident in his last major orchestral work: the Cello Concerto in E minor. It is the key of sorrow, but also of tenderness and melancholy. A touching autumnal atmosphere, great tenderness, and wonderfully passionate melodies permeate this cello concerto, which ranks among the most beautiful in music history.
