Exhibition runs until April 19, 2026
Franz von Gaudy (* 19 April 1800 in Frankfurt (Oder); + 5 February 1840 in Berlin) was a famous literary son of the city and at the same time "number 2" after Heinrich von Kleist. Gaudy's birthplace at 13 Oderstrasse was called "Zum rothen Polacken", which he himself alludes to in 1836 on his first trip to Italy in "Mein Römerzug": during a passport check "I wisely kept quiet about the fact that I first saw the light there in the house called "zum rothen Polacken", so as not to arouse suspicion that I had absorbed the spirit of revolution with my mother's milk."
Idea and curator: Dr. Doris Fouquet-Plümacher, Berlin
