Over the holidays, so-called mass figures from the Eberhard Rauchfuß collection will be featured in our music automata – a fun attraction that should surprise visitors of all ages.
In the toy industry, like many innovations, composition figures were a product of economic pressure. Tin and lead soldiers were abandoned before the First World War, as all metal had to go to the armaments industry. Wood flour, waste material, plaster, kaolin, held together by glue and internal wires – this was to be the material from which toy figures for those on a budget were eventually made. However, more durable plastics were even cheaper, so composition figures were displaced in the 1960s. While the original form disappeared from the market,
Even the figures made from injection-molded plastic are still sought-after collector's items today.
Opening: Sat., Dec. 20, 2025, 5 p.m.
Opening hours:
October-March
Tue-Sun 11am-17pm
