A small hospital in East Germany at the end of the 1960s. Dr. Heiner Sommer arrives here to complete his specialist training as a surgeon. He strives with great zeal to live up to his ideals in the daily routine of the hospital. However, reconciling theory and practice proves to be a challenging learning process.
