A journey through the underworld – A guided tour to burial sites and through the cellar vaults of St. Mary's Church
Just 250 years ago, the interior of St. Mary's was a sought-after burial place for prominent citizens and bourgeois families. Gravestones, memorial images, and burial vaults characterized the appearance of Frankfurt's main church. Today, this part of its history is only discernible upon closer inspection.
This guided tour offers visitors a glimpse into two vaulted cellars: the Greiffenpfeil family burial vault and the restored Baroque family burial vault in the south aisle. They will also learn interesting facts about the former burial customs in Frankfurt's St. Mary's Church and the gravestones that are still located within the church today.
The number of participants is limited to 14 people. The tour will only take place if there are at least 5 participants and is not suitable for people with reduced mobility or children under 14 years of age.
