Workshop: "Stitch by Stitch" - Creative Textile Repair with Birgit Paschke

The workshop "Stitch by Stitch" focuses on the creative repair of textiles. In keeping with the Japanese Mottainai philosophy, which encourages waste, participants will learn how to revitalize worn clothing – such as a pair of jeans or a beloved T-shirt – using needle and thread. The workshop is based on the traditional Sashiko technique, a hand-stitched mending and embroidery method that relies on simple running stitches and allows for both functional repairs and decorative embellishments.

Participants work on their own textiles, developing individual designs that transform signs of wear and tear into artistic elements. No prior knowledge is required; the focus is on the joy of independent repair, a mindful approach to materials, and a slower, meditative working process. The workshop invites participants to rediscover the value of clothing and to make a conscious contribution to sustainable consumption.
