Workshop: "Sumi-e" Japanese ink painting with Uta Wilczok

Workshop/seminar
Sumi-e translates as black ink painting. It is an art form practiced in Japan for centuries, its simplicity and expression of the essential brought to mastery in Zen monasteries. This workshop offers a glimpse into the "path of black ink," a spontaneous and meditative practice where nature is the measure of all beauty. This special path requires little: delicate paper, brushes, ink, and water. And our mindfulness, individuality, and presence in the now.

This workshop offers an opportunity to explore materials, techniques, and the spirit of Japanese ink painting, allowing you to freely and under guidance let your brush dance. No prior experience is necessary, just a relaxed and cheerful beginner's mind! The workshop begins with a brief introduction to the history of Japanese ink painting, including various styles, the specifics of composition and perspective, the significance of what is left unseen in the paintings, and the multifaceted symbolism of the motifs.

With a little practice and guidance, you will be able to create your first paintings in the Sumi-e style, using either powerful, decisive strokes or delicate, flowing lines. All materials are provided.
