The Streleburgs in the Lake District
The three Strele castles in Beeskow, Friedland and Storkow (Mark) originate from the Strele knightly family.
Knight Strele: The Knights of Strele originated from the former burgraviate of Strehla on the Elbe in what is now the German federal state of Saxony. Since the 11th century, they served the Wettins as imperial ministerials, i.e. civil servants. The loss of the Teltow-Fläming War in 1245, which broke out between the Wettins and the Ascanians, also resulted in the loss of all Wettin territories north of the Spree.
Now the Wettins were keen to secure the northern border of their territory. The Knights of Strele were to build a dense network of moated castles for this purpose. The development of today's Strele castles began with the expansion of the probably once wooden castle of Storkow (Mark) into a stone castle. This measure served to secure the border against the Ascanians.
Storkow Castle eventually came into the possession of the Lords of Strele from 1250 to 1382 through a fiefdom. In 1250, as a result of a presumed division of inheritance, they had Beeskow Castle built on the Spree crossing as a second centre of power. The construction of Friedland Castle completed the trio of Strele castles. With the death of Rheinhard von Strele, the name finally died out. Since 2005, the connection has been passed on and remembered through the shared history of rule at the Strele castles.

The Silent Classroom
"The Silent Classroom" is a 2018 German feature film based on the book of the same name by Dietrich Garstka. The film's plot is based on true events that took place in 1956 in the town of Storkow (Mark). The film tells the story of a group of students from Stalinstadt (now Eisenhüttenstadt) who hold a minute's silence in class in solidarity with the victims of the Hungarian uprising. This action sets off a chain of events and exposes the students and their families to political pressure and persecution. The film sheds light on the moral and emotional conflicts the students face and shows their courageous resistance to political repression.
For filming, the location was moved to Stalinstadt (Eisenhüttenstadt) because Storkow had changed too much over the years. However, if you want to get to grips with the book or the film in more detail, you should not necessarily plan a visit to Storkow.
The "Children of Golzow" is a unique German long-term documentary that follows the lives of children in the small Brandenburg community of Golzow from 1961 to the present day. The filmmakers Barbara Junge and Winfried Junge began recording in 1961, when the children started school, and continued their work for several decades. Films were made at regular intervals about the lives and development of the children, and later also about their families and the changes in the community. The "Children of Golzow" thus offers a unique contemporary document about the upbringing and life paths of a generation in the GDR and beyond.

Oderbruch Cultural Heritage
After being drained in the 18th century, the Oderbruch developed into one of the most interesting small landscapes in Europe. This makes the Oderbruch the first cultural landscape to be awarded the seal as a cultural heritage site. The ideals and history of the EU are symbolized here in a special way.
cultural heritage sites, such as local history rooms and village museums, archaeological and architectural monuments, pumping stations or ship and windmills, churches or farms, are the essence of the landscape and make it come alive.
