Spreeblick
Fürstenwalde
From the Spreeblick viewpoint directly on the promenade in Fürstenwalde, one of the most tranquil and characteristic stretches of the Middle Spree unfolds. Here, the river glides through the town in wide, gently curving bends, its natural banks offering a surprisingly green contrast to the urban surroundings: city and landscape merge seamlessly at this very spot. The combination of water, rows of trees, and open vistas makes this a popular access point to the Spree, also for recreational athletes. Fürstenwalde has been closely associated with rowing for over 130 years. To this day, this tradition shapes the character of the river. Boats glide gently across the calm water, which is reflected in the trees along the banks, in an atmosphere typical of the Oder-Spree lake district: right on the water, open and expansive – and above all, relaxed.
Besides Brandenburg an der Havel and Havelberg, Fürstenwalde on the Spree is one of the three cathedral cities of the Mark Brandenburg region. The cathedral of St. Mary, visible from afar, draws people from all directions to the heart of the city.
Directly opposite is a real lighthouse, "brought home" from the Baltic Sea, a dovecote made of stove tiles, Stone Age boulders, a bishop's castle and a former factory, which is now a cultural site and houses the city library and museum.
The charming stretch from Lübben via Beeskow and Fürstenwalde to the Berlin city limits is approximately 144 kilometers long. The flat route is not very strenuous, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful river scenery. Lush, overgrown banks and untouched meadows provide habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. With a bit of luck, you might spot otters, foxes, herons, and cranes foraging for food along the way.
The Hotel "Am Spreebogen" is located just a few minutes' walk from the city center of the ancient episcopal town of Fürstenwalde, directly on the banks of the Spree. Its maritime-inspired, modern architecture opens onto the Spree side and gives guests a largely unobstructed view of one of the most beautiful sides of Fürstenwalde.
In summer there is a beer garden directly on the Spree river at the Haus am Spreebogen.
Arrival/Departure:
Public transport: From Berlin, take the RE1 train to Fürstenwalde (Spree). From the train station, a pleasant footpath leads directly to your favorite viewpoint on the Spree River. First, walk down Eisenbahnstraße towards the town center and turn onto Mühlenstraße at the intersection. After a few minutes, you'll reach the Spree bridge. Cross the river here and then follow the riverside path to your right. The path leads you along the promenade to the quiet section where your favorite viewpoint is located. The walk takes about 12–15 minutes.
By car: From Berlin via the A12, take the Fürstenwalde-West or Fürstenwalde-Ost exit, then continue towards the city center.
Parking is available directly at the viewpoint along the riverbank road or in the adjacent areas of the Spree promenade. From there, it's just a few steps to the riverside path and the view across the Spree.
