This vantage point invites you to pause and savor the tranquility of the river and the surrounding countryside. The panoramic vista makes it a worthwhile stop on any tour through the Oderbruch region. Standing here, you'll immediately feel the unique atmosphere of the dike and the surrounding cultural landscape. A highly recommended favorite for anyone who appreciates nature and breathtaking views. So: climb up onto the dike, take a deep breath, and enjoy the expansive vistas.

The fifth stage of the Brandenburg section of the Oder-Neisse Cycle Route covers 59 kilometers from Küstrin-Kietz to Bad Freienwalde. This section follows the Oder dike all the way to Bad Freienwalde. To the right, the expansive Oder floodplains open up, providing a habitat for thousands of waterfowl, especially in spring. To the left lie the wide lowlands of the Oderbruch.

Oder-Neisse Cycle Route Stage 5

Nestled in the heart of the Oderbruch region lies the small village of Letschin, whose townscape is shaped by three historically significant figures. A monument to Frederick the Great ("Old Fritz") was erected in gratitude for the drainage of the Oderbruch, and thanks to the efforts of the residents, it still graces the village center today. The Fontane family also spent several years here and ran the local pharmacy. The former inn "Zum Alten Fritz" served as the inspiration for the writer's crime novella "Unterm Birnbaum" (Under the Pear Tree). The architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel also left his mark on Letschin. The Schinkel Tower is all that remains of the church built in 1818/1819 according to his plans.
