The hand-operated Leißnitz ferry has connected the Friedland district of Leißnitz with the opposite bank of the Spree River for many decades. It is one of the last of its kind in Brandenburg and continues to shape this tranquil stretch of the river. From the shore, a sweeping view opens up across the gently flowing Spree, whose natural banks, with their reed beds and riparian forests, are typical of the Friedland lowlands. This unique location makes this favorite spot a place where technological history and nature meet. The ferry is traditionally operated by hand, aided by the current – a rare relic of bygone days that blends harmoniously into the river landscape. This favorite view offers a glimpse of one of the quietest and most pristine sections of the Spree in the region.

The crossing of the Spree River on Brandenburg's only hand-operated passenger ferry takes approximately four minutes. Located at the outlet of Lake Leißnitz, it connects the towns of Leißnitz and Ranzig. For day-trippers, it offers a convenient and safe way to cross the river. It's also ideal for cyclists, as long-distance cycle routes such as the "Tour Brandenburg," the international Beeskow-Sulęcin cycle route, and the "Around Lake Schwielochsee" tour all cross the ferry route.

The 51 km loop around Brandenburg's largest lake is perfect for a weekend ride – with or without an overnight stay. Those who take their time will discover the many beautiful facets of this approximately 13 square kilometer lake, which owes its existence to the Ice Age. In the morning, when the mist rises over the Spree meadows, and in the evening, when the setting sun bathes everything in violet light. In between, the blue of the water flashes through the trees – the perfect guide on the tour. If the weather cooperates, swimwear should definitely be packed for this bike tour.
