Caribbean feeling in Brandenburg
The Schermützelsee, on whose shores Buckow stretches, is the largest lake in Märkische Schweiz and quickly creates a Caribbean feeling when the water shines turquoise blue in the sun. It offers water lovers a number of opportunities to be active. In the warmer months, some quiet forest lakes offer wonderful opportunities to relax and enjoy the sun and the landscape. Quiet observers can spot otters, beavers and other animals that have found their habitat in forest lakes and small streams. Hardly any other region in the Oder-Spree Lake District can boast such diverse nature.
Only state-recognized Kneipp health resort
Perhaps this recommendation from personal physician Heinrich Gottfried Grimm to King Wilhelm IV was the impetus for the town to develop into a recognized health and spa resort. The neighboring town of Waldsieversdorf was also inspired by this development and made a name for itself as a state-approved resort with a Kneipp sanatorium. Today, Buckow is the only state-approved Kneipp health resort in the state of Brandenburg and attracts thousands of visitors every year who want to take a cure for body, mind and soul. In Märkische Schweiz, however, you can not only set off on the nature trail, but also follow the history trail and explore historic towns and villages. Between the forests and Schermützelsee, you really feel like you were in Switzerland. Moors and dense fir trees are just as much a part of the route as museums, artists' gardens and the curious fieldstone pyramid in Garzau. All of them look back on a long history, most of which goes back to the 13th century and has left its mark everywhere.
