Märkische Schweiz Nature Park

observations in nature

Märkische Schweiz owes its beauty to the Vistula period, which left behind a very diverse natural formation with extensive hills, many lakes and rivers, forests and dry valleys.

Since 1990, "Fontane's Discovery" has been Brandenburg's first and smallest nature park, covering an area of 205 km².

Every hiking pack should include binoculars and a camera, because when you follow Fontane's stories you will come across very unique natural images. Primeval forests, numerous lakes, moors and ravines provide a habitat for countless species of birds, beavers, otters and birds of prey, which can live here almost undisturbed.

Healthy in Nature

The unique landscape of the nature park with forests, glacial gorges, streams, lakes and hills inspires artists and attracts nature lovers in all seasons. Art and nature are linked in a special way in the region.

The picturesque town on the Schermützelsee, known as the "Pearl of Märkische Schweiz", has made a name for itself as a Kneipp spa. Guests can test the beneficial and health-giving effects of the water at numerous water treading spots that can be found in various places in Buckow. Go into the shallow treading spots and move your feet in them. A tingling feeling will come over you and relieve joint pain.

From Buckow, guests can still travel to Müncheberg on the museum railway, just as they did 120 years ago in the Kaiser’s time.
