Settled on the Oderbruch plateau for over 750 years
First mentioned in documents in 1252 as the village of "Zelou" and in 1273 as a small town, the farming settlement was located at the intersection of the old west-east trade route and the north-south road. In April 1945, the last and largest battle of the Second World War on German soil raged here on the Seelow Heights. The German soldiers' graves in the town cemetery and the Soviet soldiers' graves in the Seelow Heights Memorial and Museum are testaments to these heavy battles.
The district town of Seelow offers many interesting sights, such as the Schinkel Church, the "Alte Dampfbäckerei" meeting place with integrated ceramics workshop, the town hall with the seat of the town administration, the cultural centre, the Krugberg with its peace forest and sculpture symposium and the school and prayer house in Alt Langsow. South of Seelow you reach the Friedersdorf art store. In the former granary there is information about grain processing as well as changing art exhibitions.
