Highway History Collection in the Erkner Highway Maintenance Office

Museums
The collection ranges from the idea of motorways in the world, through various projects, to today's motorways. The silo tower in which the Erkner motorway maintenance department's collection is now housed was put into operation in January 1942. It is the only grit silo of this type still in existence.

The more than seventy-year history of the motorway is presented with many exhibits, documents and photos. Particular attention is paid to objects from the region, such as the Rüdersdorf bridges, the "Frog Bridge" over the Alte Löcknitz near Fangschleuse, the "Fürstenwalde" type motorway petrol stations and the gate structures on the Berliner Ring.

The topic of winter service is given special attention in the collection. In addition to historical documents, visitors can also admire historical winter service technology. In the outdoor area, material evidence of the history of the motorway and operational service is on display.

Viewings can be arranged by telephone appointment.

The motorway maintenance depot is located on the eastern edge of the city, directly on the A10, and can be reached by car or bus. The nearest bus stop is Erkner - Autobahn. Coming from Grünheide (Mark), the European cycle route leads directly past the motorway maintenance depot towards Erkner town center.
