The symbol associated with this garden - the black long-eared owl on a yellow background - is familiar to all visitors who care about nature conservation. The House of Nature Conservation in Bad Freienwalde honors the work of the creators of this symbol, Erna and Kurt Kretschmann, pioneers of nature conservation in eastern Germany.
Environmental education and training are the main focuses that are to be conveyed in the adjoining show and teaching garden with nature conservation museum and observation tower, mulch garden, lecture and guest house with Erna and Kurt Kretschmann archive. Those who want to stay longer at this place can stay overnight in the hay hotel with teaching kitchen
and have a romantic experience. The show and educational garden is home to over 1000 plant species.
The Kretschmanns' decades-long work is documented in the museum of the "Haus der Naturpflege e. V." association, as the log cabin was the living and working space of the two conservationists. The Owl Tower is one of the four towers that you have to climb if you want to get a tower diploma.
