Evangelical City Church Buckow

Churches
The single-nave Protestant city church Buckow is centrally located on a small hill in the heart of the city and is visible from afar. The first wooden church, built on this site in 1250, was replaced by a granite building by Cistercian monks around 1300. During the Reformation, the church received its first Protestant pastor in 1541. Over the years, the church was damaged several times by fire. At the end of the 17th century, the master builder Mathias gave the church its current appearance as a plastered baroque building. The interior was renovated in 1891. During the two world wars, the church lost all its bells. On May 1, 1945, the church was completely destroyed and rebuilt by the community in 1950-1951. The interior walls of the church are painted white to create a contrast to the dark wood paneling of the gallery and ceiling. The organ was made by Hermann Eule from Bautzen.

It is worth taking a look inside the church. In the winter months, the key can be borrowed from the tourist information office. The parish of Buckow (Märkische Schweiz) includes the communities of Bollersdorf, Garzin/Garzau and Waldsieversdorf.
