Garden City Paulinenhof: Example of housing development of the 20s in Frankfurt (Oder).
The architect Hanns Martin Kießling (1879-1944) was chief architect and managing director of the Ostmark settlement company in Frankfurt (Oder) between 1921 and 1923. Here he also realized his largest project, the construction of 600 apartments for officials of the East German Railway Directorate, which had moved its headquarters from Berlin to Frankfurt (Oder). With the construction of the garden city of the same name on the Paulinenhof leasehold, the architect was able to initiate a new urban development regardless of the structural situation. The future residents had a say in the location and furnishing of the houses. This resulted in a settlement close to the city with a village character as a particularly early example of settlement construction in the 20s in eastern Brandenburg.
