The “Victims of Political Tyranny” memorial and documentation center provides information at an authentic location about the history of political persecution during the National Socialist era, under the Soviet occupation forces and during the GDR era.
Selected biographies are used to draw attention to people from the city and the region who were persecuted because of their political convictions, their faith, their race, their resistant behaviour or merely on suspicion; they were sent to camps, caught up in the wheels of political criminal justice, lost their lives under inhumane conditions or were even deliberately murdered.
An area of the building with five cells was not reconstructed, but left in its original state as an authentic location. The fates of well-known Frankfurt citizens from 1933 to 1989 are depicted in the cells. In addition, a single cell from around 1960 and a detention cell from 1989 provide information about the prison conditions.
Free entry. For group tours a small fee is charged depending on the group size.
