Genschmarer See (fishing lake)

Lake Genschmar is located less than five kilometers from the Polish border in the middle of agricultural fields. At around 3 kilometers long (as the crow flies), the 25-hectare lake is up to 100 meters wide. The shape of Lake Genschmar reveals its origins: the lake, which is on average 2,5 meters deep, is an old Oder riverbed. Today there are plenty of water lilies here, between which carp and tench search for food and pike lie in wait for prey swimming past. All three species of fish are found in good sizes in Lake Genschmar. And the largest of our native fish species, the catfish, also wreaks havoc in the murky water. You can also expect to see large eels, perch and the occasional pike-perch.

The access is via Genschmar, there are a few fishing spots on the road side. The deepest part of the lake, at 5 meters, is at the level of the bend in the road. If you have a small fishing boat, you can explore the true dimensions of the extremely quiet body of water by rowing. Long stretches are hardly deeper than two meters - ideal for carp and tench. There are hardly any pronounced bottom structures. The tackle should be chosen a little stronger because of the water lilies, so that a hooked fish does not flee into the thicket at the last second and get lost.
 
Predatory fish anglers get their money's worth at Genschmarer Lake. At night they can fish for eels and catfish, and during the day they can fish for pike and perch. It sounds promising, and it is! Pike weighing up to 28 pounds, powerful eels and catfish over 1,50 meters long have already been caught here. In 2011, a urian over two meters long from the Oder was even released into Genschmarer Lake in front of witnesses - and that's not just angler's tale.
