A train station for Kietz
The station is an important symbolic place for Küstrin-Kietz. Numerous life stories and professional biographies are associated with it. Until 1990, over 250 people worked at the former GDR border station. Much of what reminded people of this has since disappeared. The rooms of the station used by the NEB stood empty for a long time. Today, Polish commuters and, in the summer months, day-trippers and cycle tourists dominate the scene.
The Kietz-Bahnhof/Dworzec Chyza eV association has set itself the goal of breathing new life into the station. With the support of the NEB and with the help of grants, a cultural and memorial site has now been created for the people of Kietz and the growing number of people who have discovered the Oderbruch for themselves. With a Café, exhibition and event spaces and a small history library The station building is again open to the public on weekends from April to October.
As the name suggests, it is a German-Polish association that works to promote understanding across the nearby border. The region's eventful post-war history, a differentiated confrontation with the GDR and the profound changes after 1990 are the focus of the projects.
