The fieldstone building with the brick choir extension is an impressive testimony to history. The Romanesque church is part of the Lietzen Commandery. The medieval order complex, which has been preserved to this day, was built in the middle of the 13th century by members of the Knights Templar. After the order was dissolved, the complex and the church became the property of the Knights of St. John in 1318. With the secularization, the Prussian king donated the complex to the von Hardenberg family in 1811, who are still the owners today.
The medieval origins are also visible in the interior of the church through the star vault that was added in the 15th century. Otherwise, the church is characterized by impressive baroque elements, such as the richly decorated pulpit altar from the 18th century. A baptismal angel comes from the workshop of the woodcarver Hattenkerell. In addition to the church, the large medieval granary made of fieldstone is also part of the complex.
