If you want to relax, you will find Bad Saarow spa park with its old trees, lakeside balcony, pavilion, pergola and Fürstengraben, it is the perfect setting. Located right next to the popular SaarowTherme, it is the perfect place to take a relaxing stroll after a relaxing day at the beach.

Created in 1910 according to plans by the landscape architect Ludwig Lesser, the spa park in its current basic structure and size was only created with the expansion of the country house colony as the largest of several park-like lakeside complexes. The 6-hectare park was the central place for strolling and relaxing. In 1927, the healing spring in the park was developed and a drinking spa facility was built.

Famous personalities such as Max Schmeling and Anny Ondra got married in Bad Saarow and Käthe Dorsch, Ernst Lubitsch, Walter Kollo and Victor de Kowa spent relaxing days here, away from the hustle and bustle of the big city of Berlin.

The clear street axes with the main road leading directly to the train station provided enough space for spacious villas to be built in the local and country house style, which still characterizes the townscape today. Lesser's architectural signature is also visible in the details, as 34 country house gardens were laid out in his style.

The central park area on the north bank of Lake Scharmützelsee was in the hands of the Soviet Army for over four decades and the garden architectural structures disappeared completely. After the Soviet troops withdrew, a Europe-wide competition was announced in 1995 to redesign the park.

The design entitled “A Park for the Soul” dispensed with any reconstruction. The result is a modern park that mediates between the overall historical structure and the contrasting building of the Saarow thermal baths.

The U-shaped ensemble with a surrounding pillar gallery in the dimensions of a palace complex opens up via a courtyard with the outdoor area of the thermal baths to the lake shore, from where the setting sun can be wonderfully experienced. In terms of planting, the orientation towards the space-forming effect of the old trees has a pleasantly organic effect despite the new design.

The Lesser Promenade begins at the spa park and you can stroll along the lakeshore for about 1,5 kilometers to the Fontane Park.
