Since its almost complete destruction at the end of the Second World War, the reconstruction of the
Marienkirche Wriezen after more than 30 years, it will be completed in spring 2024. Wriezen is one of the few towns in the Oderbruch and is probably the one most closely connected to the history of this landscape. The tower of the oldest building, St. Mary's Church, is visible from afar for the residents of the Oderbruch and has been renovated, among other things. Directly in front of the church is a market fountain by sculptor Horst Engelhardt (1951-2014). The fountain sparked national discussions due to its sometimes provocative statements.
