Maxsee (fishing lake)

fishing waters
The 68-hectare Maxsee is crossed by the Löcknitz (also known as the Mühlenfließ in this area) and drains into the Spree. The lake is almost completely forested, and the banks are surrounded by reeds, marshland and some swampy areas. The average depth of the rather murky water is two metres, but there are also areas up to four metres deep.

The following species of fish are found in Lake Maxsee (sometimes in large numbers): eel, perch, grass carp, pike, carp, tench and various whitefish species. Pike-perch have also been caught, and fish such as ruffe, bleak and gudgeon also feel at home in the long stretch of water. Carp anglers who are after carp and grass carp weighing over 30 pounds can be found very regularly at Lake Maxsee. The lake is sometimes fished quite intensively at weekends, so many of the promising shore fishing spots are occupied. Those who prefer a quieter approach can try their luck during the week.

The islands may not be entered, but fishing from a boat (without a motor) is permitted. Bream are common in Lake Maxsee and will eat the bait that has been laid out. It is encouraging that many night anglers have been delighted to catch eels up to 80 centimeters long using worms and bait fish. The pike-perch are more difficult to get to. The glasseyes are usually found in the deeper areas.
