Theodor Fontane dedicated an entire chapter in his “Wanderungen durch die Mark Brandenburg” to the village of Kunersdorf, just before Wriezen. The highlights of the small village in the Oderbruch are the burial colonnade of the von Lestewitz and Itzenplitz families, the castle park, the church and the Chamisso Museum in the Musenhof, which together form a unique village ensemble of classicism.
At that time, the Musenhof, founded by the women of Friedland, was one of the intellectual and cultural centers of the Mark. Adalbert von Chamisso wrote the novella "Peter Schlemihl's Miraculous Story" here in 1813. The exhibition housed in the Musenhof commemorates the life and works of the poet.
The Chamisso Museum is open on weekends and hosts literary and musical events on selected days.
