The Leißnitzsee is fed by the Spree together with the lakes Glower See and Schwielochsee to the south. They form a connected body of water. There are several opportunities for swimming on the banks of the Leißnitzsee. One of the bathing areas is located directly in the town of Leißnitz. Access is via a path that branches off from the main road. There is a large lawn, toilets and parking spaces. There is a jetty on the beach that extends far into the water along the reeds.
At the northern end there is a hand-pulled ferry across the Spree between Leißnitz and Ranzig. There is a snack bar in the ferry house.
