Löcknitztal nature reserve

Bird watching
The approximately 448 hectare nature reserve is a unique natural paradise. The Löcknitz flows through the area for more than 20 kilometers in pronounced meanders and, with its natural riverbanks, forms a biotope for numerous rare animal and plant species. Around 100 species of birds live here, including the crane. In winter, when the surrounding lakes and bodies of water are frozen over, numerous birds use the Löcknitz valley to search for food. The designated nature reserve stretches along the Löcknitz to the Grünheide district of Kienbaum.

An eight-kilometer-long hiking trail leads from Fangschleuse train station, behind the Great Wall Bridge, along the Löcknitz through the unspoiled valley. On the approximately two-hour tour, you can observe birds, large butterflies and other aquatic, forest and meadow animals, or discover rare orchid species. The hike ends at Hangelsberg train station. The RE1 runs from there every half hour towards Berlin or Frankfurt (Oder).
