The Workshop for Rural Culture in Altranft offers a unique insight into the Oderbruch, its history and the people who shape this region. In a historic estate and an impressive collection, the special water system, rural crafts and the changes in agriculture come to life. The exhibitions provide a deep look into the past, with the focus on the inhabitants of the Oderbruch themselves.
Historic buildings and exhibitions The tour of the museum begins in Altranft Castle, a 19th-century manor house surrounded by a picturesque landscape park. Here, the region is made tangible through art, photography, films and historical collections. Antje Scholz's work of art in the gallery is particularly noteworthy: a huge web that visualizes the topography of the Oderbruch, the Oder's water system and the complex ditch system. Numerous photographs and audio stations allow visitors to experience the region with all their senses.
Rural Crafts and Historical Objects In other exhibition rooms of the Oderbruch Museum, the history of the region is told through objects from various cultural heritage sites in the Oderbruch as well as historical rural everyday objects. The castle also provides insights into the local history and offers workshop rooms in which children and young people can be creative. Visitors have the opportunity to discover historical living spaces and look at them from new perspectives.
Relax and Discover The museum reception and the museum café are located in the manor house. In addition, visitors can view the village church built in the 18th century, the historic fire station, a farmhouse, a smithy and a fisherman's house. For those who want to delve deeper into the history of the Oderbruch, there are many materials to browse and read on the museum's workbenches and shelves.
events and special offers The museum offers a variety of special events and hands-on activities to round off the experience. Please note that special admission prices apply for events.
