In a 45-minute tour of the Seelow Heights Memorial/Museum, tour guide and tour leader Klaus Ahrendt provides an overview of the course of the battle and the memorial.
After the Volkssturm surrendered at the fortress of Küstrin at the end of March 1945, the commander-in-chief of the 1st Belorussian Front, Marshal Zhukov, commanded the battle for the Seelow Heights from the Reitweiner Sporn.
As early as 1945, Marshal Zhukov was planning to establish memorial sites. There was also to be a memorial site for the many thousands of people who lost their lives in the Battle of the Seelow Heights.
Dates for public tours can be found on the website. Individual appointments can be arranged for organized tour groups.
