The Schinkel Church in Neuhardenberg is an architectural masterpiece that was built in 1809 according to plans by Karl Friedrich Schinkel. Originally built as part of the village of Quilitz, the church received its current name after the village was donated to State Chancellor Carl August von Hardenberg by King Friedrich Wilhelm III and was redesigned by Schinkel between 1815 and 1817.
A highlight of the church is the starry sky, inspired by Schinkel's stage design for Mozart's "Magic Flute". The furnishings are complemented by the altarpieces of the four evangelists, which were created in 1822 by the Potsdam artist Josef Bertini. A historical speciality is the heart of Carl August von Hardenberg, which is kept in the chancel at his request. Thanks to extensive restoration work, the church now shines in its original splendor.
Guided tours and visits are available on request, also for groups, holders of star sponsorships or those interested in the KPM star bowl.
