In the 18th century, the village of Alt Madlitz and at the same time the baroque three-storey manor house with hipped roof were taken over by Karl Graf Finck von Finkenstein.
The modernization of the estate began in 1780. Shortly before the Red Army invaded in 1945, the last residents of the castle fled to the West and the estate was expropriated. So it was that after the war, the park and the flora within it were left to themselves. But the manor house, which had served as housing for refugees for forty years, also had cracks in the walls and was neither cared for nor maintained. So the Finck von Finkenstein family had a lot of work ahead of them after buying back the estate.
With the help of the Düsseldorf architect Walter Brune, Alt Madlitz Castle was restored to its former glory in 1997 after extensive restoration work, thus enhancing the entire village.
Today, the manor house is privately inhabited by Karl Wilhelm Graf Finck von Finkenstein and is therefore not open to visitors. However, to the delight of visitors, the extensive landscape park is open and is also provided with signposts and an informative board at the entrance.
