castles and parks
The current castle park in Altranft was designed around 1820, when the von Hacke family gave the whole place a completely new look. The origin of the centuries-old noble residence dates back to around 1375 and is closely linked to the name of the first local landowner family, von Pfuel. They ruled over 300
Years later, the fortunes of the place were determined. Examinations of the core walls and the barrel vault confirm the time of construction. The manor house built at that time was much smaller, however, and has little in common with the castle that can be visited today. It was surrounded by a small pleasure garden with a vineyard, herb and kitchen garden, tree nursery and two carp ponds, which shows the utilitarian nature of the site at that time. It was first mentioned in 1726. The stables and barns on the site also prove this.

In the castle park, as in so many parks in the state of Brandenburg, the signature of the famous landscape designer Peter Joseph Lenné can be recognized, although it has never been proven that he was actually involved in the park's design. The 3,5 hectare garden was also redesigned in the English style in the first half of the 18th century. Three sightlines characterize the character of the park: to the east between the castle and the Oder, towards Altranft, and the third directs the view to an old linden tree in front of the castle wall as a "point de vue". The reconstruction of the sightlines began in 1986 and restored the original design. Today, the entrance to the park is adorned with a wrought iron gate, which has only been in use since 1990. Before that, a white slatted gate hung here. The castle park invites you to stroll and linger with its attractive old trees, extensive lawns, the Altranft castle in its center and an adjacent animal paddock.

Altranft also offers every generation a lively backdrop for learning about historical life and work in the countryside. There are a number of interesting demonstrations, exhibitions and buildings to discover in the Altranft museum village. Anyone who wants to learn how agricultural equipment was forged and livestock was kept in the traditional way should not miss a visit to Altranft. A visit to the museum café is the perfect end to a long walk with a multitude of lasting impressions in this lifelike museum area.
