A bridge over the Oder near Frankfurt (Oder) played an important role in the Middle Ages. For the Hanseatic traders as well as for the pilgrims on the Way of St. James. The first solid bridge was built in 1895, and at that time even had a tram track that led across to what was then Frankfurt's Dammvorstadt district.
Today's Stadtbrücke The bridge dates back to 2002. From bank to bank, it spans (at normal water levels) just under 250 meters, and reaches a height of up to 34 meters. The border between Germany and Poland runs down the middle of the shipping lane. Therefore, approximately two-thirds of the bridge lies within Polish territory. A visit to Słubice on the other side of the Oder River is definitely worthwhile.
