gardens and parks
The beautiful city park is located in the "green city on the Spree" of Fürstenwalde. Its lush greenery stretches all the way to the historic center. Fürstenwalde gained its reputation in the 1920s due to its large number of trees and the large number of small and large lawns. The city park in the west of the town was created in 1836 by the heath lord Friedrich Schulze. Initially located only in the area of the banks of the Spree, it was extended to Eisenbahnstrasse, which opened in 1842.

The central attraction of the city park is the fountain at the Grosser Stern, built in 1939. In the eastern part of the park there is a large open space, the former Wilhelmplatz. After the wars of unification, several peace oaks were planted here, and they still stand there today. In the northwest, an area of the city park was converted into the Fürstenwalde local zoo in 1975. Today, over 300 animals from around 70, mainly European, species live here. Open-air events are regularly held in the summer on the park stage, which opened in 1955.
