Parish Church of St. Mary, Altlandsberg

Churches
The three-aisled parish church of St. Mary in Altlandsberg is an imposing fieldstone building. Its location is unusual: not in the center of the medieval old town, but on its northern edge, in the immediate vicinity of the castle church. The original Slavic village was probably located here.
Around 1250, a spacious new building replaced the previous wooden church near the castle. The tower with its protruding base made of field stones is still a striking feature today. The ceiling was vaulted in the 15th century. Early Gothic tendrils and paintings can be seen in places on the plaster. The pulpit was built around 1600 with rich ornamentation in the style of Dutch ornamental engravings. The windows of the church were changed in the 19th century. Since the beginning of 2000, the church has been undergoing fundamental renovation in individual construction phases.
Summer concerts are held regularly in and around the church and in front of the medieval town backdrop of Altlandsberg, and the medieval town festivals attract visitors from outside the region.
During renovation work, guided tours are available on request at the parish office, Berliner Str. 16, Tel. 033438-60210, otherwise open daily from Easter to Thanksgiving from 10 a.m.
