Straussee (fishing lake)

fishing waters
The Straussee is located right outside Berlin in a rural idyll in the town of Strausberg, which is named after it, in the Märkisch-Oderland district. The average depth is just under ten meters; at its deepest point, southwest of the ferry, the glacial body of water is 20 meters. The banks of the Straussee, which is around 3,8 kilometers long and up to 340 meters wide, are sometimes difficult to access and after a narrow shore region, quickly drop to a depth of 10 meters with a uniform trough-shaped structure. In summer, a thermocline forms at a depth of around 9 meters. Below this separating layer, the water is quite low in oxygen and the bottom is largely muddy. Successful fishing is now possible down to a depth of 10 meters.

The most common fish species are eel, perch, pike, zander, carp and various whitefish. Catfish, grass carp and tench also live in the Straussee, although they are not as common. Coarse fish anglers first come into contact with roach and rudd, bream and silver bream also bite very well and with luck and patience, a strong fighting mirror carp will also find the bait offered.
Anyone on the trail of toothy predators such as pike and zander can calculate realistic chances of catching fish in Lake Straussee. But perch are also found in large numbers in the water. The depth sounder can be used to locate schools of perch. If you can make out individual sickles on the display next to the "cloud of fish", you should let a decent bite sink into the depths. The sloping banks are considered to be particularly promising, but of course perch and pike are also active in open water. As in many natural waters of the surrounding lakes, boat anglers have the edge on Lake Straussee and can search for fish flexibly. The use of boat motors is prohibited, however, and sufficient distance must be kept from the fishing traps.
Night fishing is permitted with additional permission.
