Teufelsstein Treppeln

gardens and parks
The Teufelstein is located about two kilometers from stairs and is accessible via a path from the village. Nestled between birch and pine trees, the large boulder is impressive, measuring four meters long, 2,8 meters wide, and 1,8 meters high. A legacy of the Ice Age, the colossus was transported here by glaciers from Scandinavia.

The stone is shrouded in legend: A farmer is said to have made a pact with the devil to remove the stone from his field. The devil then hurled it across Lake Klautzke, where it remained. Even today, imprints of the devil's horse's footsteps and hand can be seen in the stone.
At the Teufelsstein, shady spots under tall trees invite you to linger. The place is a perfect resting place for hikers and cyclists exploring the eastern gateway to the Schlaubetal Nature Park. Treppeln is connected to the "Mönchstour" and "Oder-Spree-Tour" cycle paths.
