Today's visitors can rediscover what the Prussian electors and kings appreciated about Bad Freienwalde: Between winding alleys, historical monuments and green hills, the approximately 800-year-old town proudly boasts a lively art and culture scene.
Since 1684, Bad Freienwalde has been able to call itself a spa town - the oldest in the Margraviate of Brandenburg. The moor mined outside the city gates is still a highly effective remedy today.
The great Brandenburg hiker and poet Theodor Fontane often and happily stayed in the town. He briefly and aptly described it: “Freienwalde - a beautiful word for a beautiful place!”
