Richter family winery
Since it is not a classic wine region, hardly anyone suspects that wine is grown in the resort town of Neuzelle. There used to be numerous vineyards in and around the monastery. Due to unfavorable circumstances such as wars, crop failures and the dissolution of the monastery, wine growing was completely stopped and was forgotten for many decades.
At that time, the wine did not taste particularly good. It was only in the last few centuries that the quality of the wine was improved and it became a drink for connoisseurs.
The first and largest vineyard in Neuzelle is located in a paradise on the edge of the resort. The Richter family was the first to plant vines again in Neuzelle after 150 years without wine. At first there were only a few vines on the 15-degree steep south-west slope. Today there are over 500, with a wide variety of varieties. During a guided tour you can learn a lot of interesting facts from the amateur winemakers. The different types of wine can be tasted in a relaxed atmosphere.
The family's many farm animals live and graze in harmony on the vineyard, and you can watch them in a relaxed manner and even pet them. This is great fun for children and adults. A specialist in animal-assisted therapy is happy to help the children.
