Wierichwiesen
The Wierichwiesen are a low moor area that drains into the Scharmützelsee. They have long been used by Saarow farmers to produce fodder. Today, the Demeter Hof Marienhöhe and a horse-drawn transport company use the land to produce hay. This results in long rest periods, so that many birds feel at home there. There are old trees and a pond on the edges. The healing moor was previously extracted from this pond. Today there is a moor extraction area on the east side of the meadow. The healing moor is used in the SaarowTherme, is reinstalled and can be reused after a rest period. The Wierichwiesen can be walked around on the Schmeling hiking trail. This trail starts at the lively waterfront promenade, leads past the church and beautiful old villas, such as the Scharwenkahaus, then you reach the Wierichwiesen and have a wonderful view. A concert of bird songs accompanies the hikers. Depending on the season, wild geese, cranes, swallows and a flock of starlings can be observed. Storks can also often be seen in summer. A multi-voiced bird concert can be heard from the old trees. Benches invite you to observe.
