A particular highlight is the Birdrace on May 3, 2025. In this competition, teams try to spot as many bird species as possible within a single day. The "Seenland-Spöker" team will be participating for the third time and invites interested parties to follow their adventure live or even form their own team. Those who prefer something a little smaller can join the "Mini Birdrace" in Beeskow on the same day for a two-hour birdwatching session – an ideal opportunity to gain initial experience and discover the local birdlife. Spring offers optimal conditions for observing feathered friends, and the water-rich Oder-Spree Lakeland region boasts true hotspots for this: Güstebieser Loose in the Oderbruch, Buckow in the Märkische Schweiz, Philadelphia near Storkow, and Henzendorf near Neuzelle, to name just a few of the observation areas designated by the Oder-Spree Lakeland. At the locations marked on the map, you'll find ornithological QR codes on observation towers, boardwalks, benches, or information signs. Scan these with your smartphone to view a list of bird species recently observed at that location. From boardwalks along the shore, observation platforms, or lookout towers, you can easily spot bitterns, common terns, red kites, ospreys, and other birds with binoculars, and often even with the naked eye. Combined with a bike ride or hike and a picnic, it makes for a perfect outing. The website provides detailed information on observation areas, bird species, suggested tours, specific accommodation tips, and event listings related to birdwatching in the Oder-Spree Lake District.
