Jelly in the Neuhardenberg Castle Park
Sunday excursion to Neuhardenberg. But this time the tour is crowned with a garden gem: with a picnic basket from the Hotel Schloss Neuhardenberg. Before the culinary delights, however, the excursion planner has planned a short tour through the park, which was created by Lenné and which is crowned by the castle, which was rebuilt in a classicist style by Schinkel.
In 2004, the ensemble was voted the “most beautiful park in Germany”. Anyone who has ever walked through the castle park will say: rightly so! Then it’s off to the hotel. A fully packed picnic basket is already waiting for me at reception. It looks very English. The glasses in the basket clink promisingly. The sun is shining from the sky between a few clouds. Perfect picnic weather, then. And so it’s off to the large meadow behind the hotel. I could have walked a little further into the Neuhardenberg castle park. Walking on the lawn is expressly permitted here. The last downpour of rain has turned the meadows a lush green.
The picnic blanket is quickly laid out. And then the big unpacking begins. The description on the website sounded pretty tempting. The hotel kitchen has stored its treasures in small jars. There are grilled vegetables, two small cheese patties, potato salad, tomato with mozzarella, mozzarella with green pesto and a portion of castle porridge with vanilla sauce. And a huge piece of focaccia topped with Mediterranean vegetables and country smoked ham. The Hotel Schloss Neuhardenberg didn't promise too much. A real treat for the gods awaits me there.
Then the first hunger is satisfied. And from the horizontal, the world doesn't look bad either. The wind rustles through the treetops. The birds in the park also have a lot to tell each other. That's how I imagined the Sunday excursion. Out of the big city, into the country. A deep sense of satisfaction spreads. In between, I snack on a little bite and browse a little in my book. I have declared the meadow a self-proclaimed cell phone-free zone. The phone remains untouched. Then at some point it is actually time to leave. But Neuhardenberg is not far...
