For the tourism association, which is responsible for destination management in the Oder-Spree and Märkisch-Oderland districts as well as for the city of Frankfurt (Oder), cycling is a core competency and one of the most important location factors. Around 30 percent of tourism revenue is generated by cycling tourism. For this reason, the focus is increasingly on improving and developing tourist offers to increase added value along the routes and the conscious decision was made to recertify as a cycling travel region at the beginning of 2023. This means that the Oder-Spree Lake District belongs to an exclusive group of a total of seven official ADFC cycling travel regions, which are also located in Bavaria, Lower Saxony, Baden-Württemberg and the Ruhr area.
If you want to try out all the cycling tours in the Lake District, one season will probably not be enough, because bikers are spoiled for choice with almost 100 cycling tours. The "Eagle meets Zander" tour around the Storkower and Scharmützelsee appeals to friends of fish and nature lovers alike and is also suitable for families. You always have the water in view on one of the most beautiful and varied cycle paths, the Spree Cycle Path, which follows the course of the Spree to the capital. Anyone who thought that the Schlaubetal was only a hiking paradise should try the cycle tour through the idyllic nature park, which starts in Müllrose. And if you like culture, you can't miss the Märkische Schlössertour. This 180-kilometer-long multi-day tour leads to the most beautiful aristocratic residences and manor houses and invites you to take a break and have a picnic in the stately parks. Cyclists can experience blooming spring landscapes on the Oderbruchbahnweg between Fürstenwalde and Wriezen. But the tourism association has also designed numerous shorter tours for less ambitious cyclists, which are attractively illustrated and described in brochures such as “Late Riser Tours” or “Excursion Planner”.
