4th stage of the "Spree Cycle Path": Beeskow - Erkner

The fourth stage of the Brandenburg section of the Spree Cycle Path runs 72 kilometers from Beeskow to Erkner. From Beeskow, the route goes via Berkenbrück, always along the Spree to the cathedral city of Fürstenwalde/Spree. Via Hangelsberg and Spreeau, the route goes through the unspoilt Spree lowlands to Erkner.

Directions
From Beeskow, the route leads directly along the Spree, which flows very calmly and peacefully in this section. The flat route is not very strenuous, so you have plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful course of the river while cycling. Wild river banks and untouched meadows are a habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. With a bit of luck, you can watch otters, foxes, herons and cranes foraging for food. You should definitely take a break on the river bank and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature with a view of the sky. And of course, take a swim. There are small bathing spots along the Spree.

When you see the church tower of Fürstenwalde, you are getting closer and closer to the capital. The former bishop's seat also has many historical buildings and a wide range of cultural activities to offer. St. Mary's Cathedral with its precious sacrament house is only one of two cathedrals in Brandenburg. And the vault of the historic town hall is a reminder of the city's centuries-old brewing tradition. So it's worth leaving your bike behind for a while and discovering the city's charm.

Before you get on the S-Bahn in Erkner, you should pay a visit to the Gerhart Hauptmann Museum. The poet spent formative years in the city on the Spree that shaped his later literary work. Today, the museum in the Villa Lassen provides an exciting insight into the life and work of the Nobel Prize winner for literature.

Good to know: Beer from Fürstenwalde was first mentioned in documents in 1451.
