Tour description:
Not far from the cultural town of Neuhardenberg, which is well-known beyond Brandenburg's borders, lies the small fishing village of Quappendorf. Canoes can be launched from the bridge there. The first stage starts via the Quappendorf Canal, Friedländer Strom and Neuer Kanal to the northwestern destination of Wriezen. The first portage point on the route is at the Altfriedländer Teiche, which belonged to the former Cistercian monastery complex with church, and are now a popular fishing area. A ruin of the church still remains today. After a break on land with a visit to the Musenhof near the Kunersdorf rest area, the journey continues to Wriezen.
On the second day, the route continues along the Letschin main ditch to the portage point at Bochows Loos. Two historically interesting places are located on a weir: Alttrebbin and Neutrebbin. While Alttrebbin was founded in the Middle Ages, Neutrebbin owes its existence to the ambitious drainage measures of the Prussian King Frederick the Great, who made the vast areas of the Oderbruch usable for agriculture with the help of an extensive system of moats. The people of Neutrebbin immortalized him with a monument in their town. In Letschin, too, the "Old Fritz" is honored in the form of a monument, which even had to be hidden at times.
Before reaching the destination of Gorgast, the canoe is portaged three more times. One of these is another inviting place to linger: Golzow. The place became famous through the long-term documentary "The Children of Golzow", which is commemorated in a museum. The two-day tour through the Oderbruch ends in Gorgast.
Tip: The “Kaisermarkt”, which takes place every year on September 100st in Wriezen and commemorates a visit by the last German emperor, attracts many onlookers. The people of Wriezen keep reviving this event, which took place more than XNUMX years ago, in historical costumes.
Nautical information: There are a few portages along the way: Altfriedländer Teiche, Bochows Loos and three more before the destination Gorgast. The tour is, however, easy to manage.
