The tour starts in Bad Saarow, where the spa park ideal conditions for bird watching. In summer, oriole, song thrush and blackbird active, while at night the eerie call of the tawny owl can be heard.
A worthwhile observation point is located at the waterfront, where on the jetty often the Great Reed Warbler can be heard. In winter, numerous Golden-eye ducks, goosanders and coots near the shore – often easy to see even without binoculars.

We continue along the west bank in Richtung Kleiner Werl, an island in the Scharmützelsee. This area is particularly suitable for cormorants to watch them drying their wings.
Am eastern bank in Diensdorf-Radlow There is another observation point, which has a high density of water birds, especially in the winter months.
South from Wendisch Rietz A canal connects the Scharmützelsee with the Großer Storkower See, from Moorsteg To the southeast of the lake there is a view of the surrounding wet meadows, a Natura 2000 area with marshy meltwater channels and inland dunes.
