Directions
Before the tour starts, it is worth taking a look at the Großer Schauener See. Here you can observe common terns, which nest on special breeding rafts. Ospreys circle high in the sky and suddenly dive into the water to catch fish. The dull calls of the bittern can often be heard in the reed areas.
The route initially leads northeast along the Groß Schauener Hauptstrasse. After about 1,2 kilometers, turn left into Philadelphiastrasse, which leads to the town of Philadelphia after 1,5 kilometers. There, the street "An der Fasanerie" branches off to the left. If you want to spot forest birds, you can take a detour into the forest here. After just a few meters, you can hear the song of wood warblers and thrushes as well as the drumming of great spotted woodpeckers. With a bit of luck, you might also see a lesser spotted woodpecker or black woodpecker.
Back on the route, the route continues along the Lindenweg at the edge of the forest. After one kilometer, there is a left turn, then the path leads about 1,5 kilometers to Wolziger Weg. At a single house, the route turns south and leads through shady forests to Klein Schauen. The route continues to Görsdorf-Busch, where black redstarts and house sparrows can be seen in the gardens.
From here, a beautiful avenue, accompanied by the singing of nightingales, leads back to the Köllnitz nature reserve after about one kilometre.
