The dreamy resort of Waldsieversdorf in the popular hiking region of Märkische Schweiz is less well known. But here, just a few kilometers east of Berlin, you will find the ideal combination of nature experiences, hiking and swimming fun and rarely frequented paths. This short, relaxed half-day tour is a real insider tip - especially for nature-loving families!

Your late-riser excursion:
  • Close to nature and quiet: in the smallest and oldest nature park in Brandenburg
  • Varied: stalk along the riverside path and through the forest and discover new things along the way
  • bathing play and chill at hidden natural bathing spots or at the idyllic beach
  • Cult: travel with the historic Buckow narrow-gauge railway

start and finish: Waldsieversdorf bus stop (village) or Waldsieversdorf train station
Length: 6 km / 2 - 3 h
Public transport: RB26 from Ostkreuz / Lichtenberg to Müncheberg, then take bus 928 to Waldsieversdorf (village) or alternatively take the Buckower Kleinbahn (01.05.-03.10. on weekends and public holidays) to the Waldsieversdorf stop.
Departure public transport: Bus 928 or Buckower Kleinbahn to Müncheberg, then RB26 (hourly) towards Berlin

Directions:
Once you have arrived in the tranquil Waldsieversdorf, follow Dahmsdorfer Straße on the left for just a few meters and then turn right into Sauerkirschenallee, at the end of which you will find the Waldsieversdorf water tower where the hike begins.

In the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park
The regional train takes you quickly out of the city and into the Märkische Schweiz nature park. Change briefly in Müncheberg and the bus drops you off in idyllic Waldsieversdorf after just 7 minutes. The villa colony near Buckow exudes a pleasant sense of serenity and peace.
It starts at the "WaldKAuTZ" opposite the bus stop. You walk around the Great and Small Däbersee and come back to Waldsieversdorf. Alternatively, you can travel with the Buckower Kleinbahn and hike the tour from the stop in reverse order. The ride on the old museum railway is a highlight in itself. Maybe you can even look over the train driver's shoulder?!

View from the water tower and then down the ladder to heaven
The path takes you a short distance along the nature park route through Dahmsdorfer Straße and Sauerkirschenallee to the water tower. Be sure to climb up and take in the free panoramic view of the town and the wooded landscape. You can also learn interesting things about the region. You then climb down the 555 steps to the sky and head towards the lake.

monkey swing and beaver tracks
A footpath now takes you into the forest. You will notice the hill between the Great and the Small Däbersee. Here you can climb up and look for the remains of a Slavic castle. It served as a refuge for the surrounding settlers in times of danger. It was also used during the Thirty Years' War and was given the name Swedish Schanze. The view from above over the lake is particularly beautiful.
Down on the shore path, don't forget the monkey swing at Kleiner Däbersee. Who dares to swing like Tarzan on a rope over the water and fall into the refreshing water? There are some dreamy natural bathing spots and small benches where you can linger. Do you see the beaver tracks on the trees? Europe's largest rodent and the best lumberjack of all time is clearly native here.
Your tour will also pass the John Heartfield House, the founder of modern photomontage and friend of the famous poet Bertolt Brecht. An information board indicates the possibility of a visit.

bathing fun and pedal boat action
Towards the end of the tour, the charming public swimming pool at the Großer Däbersee awaits you. In addition to a beautiful lawn with a sandy beach, the great slide and diving tower attract the brave among you. If that's not enough, rent a pedal boat or rowing boat and set off on the lake!

Troll Bernhard and the Zupfkuchen at Tilia
If you are hungry after the tour and like really good cake, stop off at Café Tilia. Homemade cakes are served under old linden trees. Tip: try Russian Zupfkuchen! Take a look across the street. Here Troll Bernhard points out a very special kind of garden fence. At the entrance to Seestraße 2 you will find a mini open-air museum. A geologist couple has exhibited more than 50 stones from the Ice Age and lovingly labeled them. It's fascinating what the ice pushed here from Scandinavia back then!

What time is it?
If you don't have a watch with you, Waldsieversdorf can help out! There are two special places that show the time. On the way back to the bus stop, at Dahmsdorfer Straße 28, you can admire the large flower clock made by the Heinze family of watchmakers. A quick detour around the corner and you'll see an equatorial sundial that a local metalworker made in over 1.000 hours of work. It shows you the current solar time for Waldsieversdorf.

Plan your late-riser tour to Märkische Schweiz now!
